Will Ezri Konsa arrival give Leeds United a better chance of signing John Egan?
Will Ezri Konsa arrival give Leeds United a better chance of signing John Egan? – Leeds United are keen on the signature of Irish defender Egan from Brentford.
Leeds United are on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer. The Whites need to improve the area, with a new partner needed to play alongside Pontus Jansson. Liam Cooper struggled last season whilst loan signing Matthew Pennington struggled to stay fit. In the end, Leeds had the likes of Paudie O’Connor and Conor Shaughnessy playing ahead of their time.
Whilst the Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley appears to be the number one target the YEP reported this week that Brentford captain John Egan is also on the list.
The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international has been a revelation at Griffin Park since his move from Gillingham in 2014. Now a respected Championship defender, it is no surprise to see Leeds reportedly keen on his services.
A transfer today might have just made getting Egan a little bit easier.
Brentford have beaten off plenty of competition to snap up the young defender Ezri Konsa from Charlton Athletic. He leaves former Leeds midfielder Lee Bowyer, current assistant and recent caretaker manager at the Valley, for a new home at Griffin Park.
The England under-21 defender will now hope to go straight into the Brentford first-team and could easily slot alongside Chris Mepham or Andreas Bjelland at the back for the Bees.
Whilst Brentford will want to keep Egan as well, the presence of Konsa should give Leeds a far better chance of getting hold of their man should they make a move this summer.
